The cruising life - Inner Harbour, Nantucket

Brant Point Lighthouse, the second oldest lighthouse in the country, has welcomed sailors to Nantucket since 1746.

Nantucket is an island lying 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and is approximately 14 miles long by 3.5 miles wide with 82 miles of beaches.  Low lying it was settled firstly by the Indians, then the Europeans in the 1600's and was primarily a whaling port.  Today the Land Trust has strict guidelines on building practices and paint colors used - the town center is reminiscent of yesteryear, absolutely delightful as you will see in the below photos -

Nantucket - so delightfully quaint!

Mixed New England architecture with cobbled streets

Grand houses built for the prosperous whaling captains

The crew has had a leisurely day from diving off Paradigm, extended tea drinking sessions (have yet to convert Doug to the delight of a morning cup of tea), hailing the Nantucket Ferry Service for a lift ashore, walking the cobbled streets, luncheon at one of the many restaurants busy with day trippers, a wee bit of "op" (thrift) shopping for the girls, finishing with an interesting visit to the historic Whaling Museum and completing the day with wine and dinner in the cockpit.
