GETTING READY TO GO: Another morning dawns for the early rising crew. Tami cooks a hearty scramblet (scrambled eggs with Vidella onions, sharp cheddar cheese, red and yellow peppers, and fresh spinach) along with fried ham while Jeanie makes espresso, tea and toast. The team sits around the table below discussing the day’s plan to sail to Martha’s Vineyard. Seizing the Captain’s credit card (with his permission of course!), Jeanie and Tami went to provision for fresh produce along with a few odds and ends from the hardware store while Geoff washed dishes and made the galley (kitchen) sparkle. The other blokes yarned (Kiwi to Yankee translations coming soon).
Provisioned stowed, Tami climbed into the garage (large aft locker) to secure the now removed boarding ladder, power cord, water hose, and cleaning supplies including toilet repair kit. Next dock lines were cast off and stowed in the forward deck locker along with fenders. Captain Charlie flawlessly backed out of the marina missing several 3-story, 200+ foot mega yachts and a few 100+ foot sailboats.
Securing items in the large "garage" aft.
Newport Bay: Saying goodbye to Newport, we passed an amazing home on a chunk of rock in the bay along with hundreds of beautiful sail and power boats. The variety of vessels dating from several hundred-year-old wooden schooner sailing ships to sleek new power yachts with helicopters on their back decks. Both shores were lined with lovely estates. We glided past the narrowing entrance guarded Fort Adams since August of 1841. Serving the country as an Army post during 5 wars (Mexican-American War, American Civil War, Spanish-American War, World Wars 1 &2) never firing a shot in anger. The fort was transitioned to a State Park in the 1950s.
