Plans delayed due to FOG!

The plan was to head south meandering along the rocky coastline to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lunenburg.  But our plans were scuppered by dense fog.  Although we woke to brilliant sunshine on our mooring, looking to the outer harbour we could see what looked like low lying dense grey clouds which rather quickly moved into the inner harbour, with visibility rapidly deteriorating and then up the North West Arm where we were moored.

Looking out into the Outer Harbour

From the cockpit you can hear voices but can't see more than a couple of feet ahead.  It's quite unnerving hearing the sounds of engines and feeling the roll of a bow wave as vessels pass by. The fog brings a distinct chill with the moist air which seems to envelope you leaving everything with a wet and clammy feel.

And then the fog just magically lifts, the skies blue again, the sun shining and excellent visibility once more.  We check our weather forecasting with Predict Wind and this also gives an indication of fog but not always the depth of the fog.

  1. Fog is scary, glad you waited for the fog to clear, also glad you have radar to help find your way if fog suddenly envelopes Paradigm…Geoff
