SHORE LEAVE! Newport is a fantastic place to visit, steeped in maritime history, incredible yachts and privately owned ships, another Monaco. Not a hardship to divert. Jeanie and family spent 3 months here in the late 1980's refitting Finisterre for offshore cruising.
Newport with it's mega motor yacht meets classic sailboats is known for hosting the America’s Cup along with other sailing regattas. Newport is also famous for the Gilded Age mansions lining Bellevue Avenue, some of which are
now museums. One of the grand estates is now the New York Yacht Club (NYYC)-- home to the America's Cup Trophy before the Kiwi's sailed it away! Doug graciously treated the crew to a wonderful night out at the NYYC with drinks watching the sunset over the bay from chairs nestled in the deep green manicured lawn followed by an amazing dinner in this fine mansion!
